Avoiding Scams When Registering a Company in Georgia

Avoiding Scams When Registering a Company in Georgia

As Georgia becomes a hotspot for digital nomads and entrepreneurs looking to take advantage of its low tax regime, the number of companies offering formation services has also grown. Unfortunately, not all of them operate ethically or within the legal framework.

Watch Out for Unrealistic Promises

If a provider claims that they can open a company in Georgia without you signing any documents or providing ID, that is a red flag. According to Georgian law, it is mandatory to:

  • Sign a Power of Attorney (POA) and have it apostilled or notarized
  • Provide a legalized or certified copy of your passport

Without these, no company registration is legally valid — no matter what anyone promises.

Don’t Overpay

Some services charge excessively for basic procedures. While some premium services exist, they should be clear and transparent about what you’re paying for. If you're quoted thousands of euros for a basic company formation, take a step back and compare with other regulated providers.

How Scammers Operate

Scammers often use flashy websites, vague service descriptions, and lack of legal disclaimers. They may promise same-day registration, no documents required, or fully remote setup with no paperwork — all of which are misleading or outright illegal.

How to Protect Yourself

  • Always ask for clear documentation about the process
  • Make sure POAs and passport copies are handled properly
  • Look for Georgian-based partners or licensed professionals
  • Contact the service provider directly and ask for a written breakdown of costs and steps
